Erik ten Hag has sent a message to Marcus Rashford and feels the Manchester United forward can still improve despite his impressive recent form.
Rashford has scored four goals in four games since the domestic season in England restarted following the conclusion of the World Cup in Qatar.
Those came in Premier League wins over Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Bournemouth as well as the Carabao Cup victory over Burnley.
The 25-year-old England international looks a new player under Dutch boss Ten Hag – who arrived at Old Trafford in the summer – and has registered 12 goals and four assists across his 23 games in total so far this season.
United return to action on Friday when they host Frank Lampard’s Everton in the FA Cup third round and Ten Hag feels Rashford can get even better if he follows his advice.
‘First of all, keep the focus always and doesn’t matter if you are in the game or not in the game, keep focusing on scoring the goal,’ Ten Hag told Rashford on Thursday.
‘A player like Marcus but others in our squad – Anthony Martial is the same – when they stay in the game, mentally, focused, 100 per cent concentration, they have the skills and only need one moment to change the game in a positive way.
‘If he develops that skill, he will score more goals and contribute to a successful season.’
The United boss was also quizzed about the club’s hunt for a trophy – with the Red Devils unable to lift any silverware in over five years – with their last one coming in 2017 when Jose Mourinho led the side to glory in the Europa League.
‘I don’t think about that,’ Ten Hag added. ‘In this stage of the season you are not looking at [it].
‘We have [to be] together [to be] in a position you can win something and I know the season is taking long, especially with such a lot of games ahead.
‘When you think too far ahead, you get distracted, [and you need to] focus on the team progress, team development [instead], it’s all about that.
‘We have many elements in our game we have to improve.’
