Jurgen Klopp is keen for Liverpool to sign a forward for big money in the January transfer window to cover for Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.
Both men are still ruled out injured long-term and Klopp wants Liverpool to have more attacking options with the Premier League now back following the conclusion of the World Cup in Qatar.
The Reds are currently sixth in the table following a tricky start – having only won six of their opening 14 games – and will want to sign a top player to give them the best possible chance of finishing in the top four and qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
Last January, Liverpool signed Diaz from Porto in a £49m deal and Klopp has admitted he would like the club to consider a similar move when the transfer window reopens on Sunday.
Liverpool, who have just returned from a Dubai training camp, have been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Youssufa Moukoko but face competition from Chelsea and Manchester United for his signature.
‘All the signs I got in the Dubai training camp were super positive,’ Klopp said on Monday.
‘I trust in our process and the things we do. It was completely different to pre-season. Completely different.
‘In all the games I saw we were going in the right direction. I am positive we can pick up where we left off rather than go back to the start of the season.
‘I don’t want to start talking about it now but we have two long term injuries up front which is not helpful. Never was, never will be.
‘Last season we had Luis Diaz come in (January) which was very helpful for that part of the season, everybody would see that the same way. But doing something again that is very positive – why not?’
