Mexico’s coronavirus cases pass 900,000
The Guardian says Mexico’s health ministry reported on Tuesday 5,942 additional cases of the coronavirus and 643 more deaths in the country, bringing the official number of cases to 901,268 and the death toll to 89,814.
Health officials have said the real number of infected people is likely significantly higher. On Sunday, the ministry said the true death toll from Covid-19 could be around 50,000 higher.

‘Hard choices’ as France considers new Covid-19 clampdown
France24 says French officials said Tuesday that tougher restrictions are looming to counter an alarming surge in Covid-19 cases as doctors warned many hospitals are just days away from being overrun with patients.
President Macron is to address the nation on Wednesday evening to present new measures that will be decided at back-to-back meetings of the defence council and cabinet, the presidency said.

WATCH Italian police use water cannons, tear gas & stun grenades as they clash with anti-lockdown protesters in Rome
RT News says police in Italy’s capital unleashed an arsenal of riot control weapons on crowds protesting a new round of coronavirus lockdown measures, blasting demonstrators with water cannons, tear gas and flash-bang grenades.
A protest rally near Rome’s historic Piazza del Popolo square descended into violence on Tuesday night as several hundred demonstrators took to the streets to demand an end to new Covid-19 policies imposed over the weekend.

Pandemic lockdowns fueling rise of sexual extortion crimes in Lebanon
Arab News says coronavirus lockdowns are fueling an increase in sexual extortion crimes in Lebanon, according to a security official.
Figures from the Lebanese Internal Security Forces showed that such crimes had risen significantly in recent months. Authorities received 47 complaints during July and 96 in August. The number of people arrested for these crimes this year has reached 133.

Trump falsely claims Covid-19 cases down
Aljazeera says President Trump campaigned in Wisconsin, where Covid-19 cases are rising fast, and claimed before a large crowd of several thousand supporters that the coronavirus is going away.
“We’re turning the corner. We’re turning the corner, We’re rounding like this racetrack, this is perfect, we’re rounding the curve. We will vanquish the virus,” Trump said.
“It’s all way down to really low numbers,” Trump claimed.

Coronavirus second wave hits Pakistan
CNN says Pakistan’s health ministry has announced that the country is now experiencing its second wave of Covid-19 infections.
Special assistant to the Prime Minister on health, Dr. Faisal Sultan said the country “has reached a point where serious decisions have to be made in order to clamp down on the growth of the virus.”

Channel migrants: Four dead as boat sinks near Dunkirk
BBC News says two adults and two children have died after a boat carrying migrants sank off the coast of northern France.
A large search and rescue operation began earlier after the vessel was seen in difficulty near Dunkirk.
Tunisian football fans threaten to illegally cross into Italy in protest
Africanews says almost 2,000 protesters in Tunisia are threatening to cross into Italy illegally by the sea in protest at their local football club’s suspension from the league.
Earlier this month The Tunisian football federation banned CS Chebba for a year for an incomplete and late membership application.

Aljazeera says female passengers on 10 planes flying out of Qatar’s capital Doha were forced to endure invasive physical examinations after a newborn was found abandoned in an airport toilet, Australia’s foreign minister said on Wednesday, greatly expanding the number of women thought affected.

CNA says typhoon Molave roared closer to Vietnam with destructive force Wednesday, leaving one villager dead and causing two boats with 12 fishermen to sink as the country braced for the most powerful storm in 20 years, state media said.
