Israeli tanks cross into Gaza for ‘targeted raid’
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has carried out a “targeted raid” using tanks in northern Gaza to kill more Palestinians.
The overnight ‘raid’ was in “preparation for the next stages of combat” according to the IDF.
They are expected to launch a full ground invasion of Gaza despite calls for a ceasefire amid a massive humanitarian crisis in the area.
More than 250 Hamas targets have been hit in the past 24 hours, according to Israel, but it has made life in Gaza for civilians hell. The UN’s humanitarian coordinator says “nowhere is safe in Gaza.”
Israel is not allowing fuel into the area, and hospitals are running low. Only recently has a small amount of aid been allowed in.
Food and water are scarce and there is no safe shelter for civilians.
The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza says almost 6,500 people have been killed since 7 October.
More than 1,400 people were killed in the initial attacks on Israel by Hamas, and more than 200 people are being held hostage in Gaza. It is believed Hamas are holding the hostages in a ‘spider web’ of underground tunnels.
So far, four hostages have been released.
