International news is splashed across the front pages, with the escalation in the Russia-Ukraine war following Joe Biden authorising Ukraine to use American weapons to strike Russia. The outgoing president will also send landmines – a move that has been criticised by charities and rights groups.

The Arizona Republic reports the latest Israeli strikes on Gaza killed at least 33. The paper notes that more were wounded who were sheltering at a school in the central Gaza Strip.

Los Angeles Times reports incoming president Donald Trump has promised a hard line on homeless camps when he returns to office. He has promised to arrest thousands of people living on the streets, but the LA mayor has said she hopes they can work together to find a humane solution.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says the recount has begun for the US Senate election. “By next week, similar setups across the state will decide the winner of the race between three-term incumbent Democratic Sen. Bob Casey and Republican challenger David McCormick, who is thousands of votes ahead in his upset bid.”
‘Texas offers state ranch to hold illegal migrants,’ says USA Today.
USA Today says Texas – for years the first stop for illegal migrants – is offering Trump use of a state ranch as the last place immigrants set foot on US soil before being forcibly deported.
