Hamas and Israel ceasefire starts, Palestinians celebrate
Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas came into effect early on Friday, bringing an end to 11 days of bombardment in which more than 240 people died – at least 232 of those people in Gaza.
Both Israel and Hamas have claimed victory in the conflict, and a Hamas official has warned its hands “are on the trigger.”
Palestinians poured onto the streets of Gaza soon after the truce began, according to the BBC.
Whilst Arab News said the truce – brokered by Egypt – that also included Islamic Jihad – came following international pressure to end the violence, as the death toll soared in just 11 days.
President Joe Biden said the ceasefire brought “genuine opportunity” for progress.
