A cold weather alert has been issued for England by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) this week.

Indeed, regions in the north and south of the country saw blankets of snow on Monday, January 16, as well as other parts of the UK – a day after the Met Office issued a snow warning.

Avon and Somerset Police even warned drivers not to travel unless ‘necessary’ amid treacherous freezing conditions. It later declared a major incident after a double decker bus overturned.

But if you live in the capital, you might be wondering when London specifically will next see a winter snow shower.

Here’s what the latest forecasts say.

Will it snow in January?

While many parts of the UK saw snow on Monday, January 16, there isn’t any forecast for London – at least not yet.

However, the rest of the week does look to be particularly cold in the capital.

The Met Office’s forecast for London & South East England says frost is due on the evening of Tuesday, January 17 – along with a freezing overnight minimum temperature of -3 °C.

Predictions for Wednesday, January 18 don’t suggest snow in London itself is likely.

It says: ‘Remaining cold. Staying dry and bright with sunny spells, although some patchy cloud also likely. One or two wintry showers cannot be completely ruled out, mainly in the west. Maximum temperature 5 °C.’

In the days leading to Sunday, January 22, the outlook is that it’ll be cold (really cold) – but again not snowy in London, though possibly some snow towards the South East coast.

The forecast reads: ‘Cold mainly dry weather, with isolated wintry showers along the coasts, continues through the rest of the week and into the weekend. The odd patch of overnight freezing fog possible.’

So far, there’s little suggestion of snow in London in the latter part of the month, either, though of course forecasts can change.

Currently, the UK-wide long ranging forecast (covering until Monday, January 30) suggests cold temperatures will continue to stick around in London and the South East – but that it will be relatively bright, mostly dry (with occasional rain possible), and there’ll be some light winds.

However, those in the North West may find that ‘wintry conditions are possible’ later in January, warns the Met Office.

BBC Weather is also not showing any snow in the coming days across London.

Will it snow in February?

The picture is pretty similar for most of February. Weather25’s long forecast predicts temperatures ranging between 5°C and 12°C.

Their forecast also shows a mostly dry month in the capital, with just a few days of rainfall currently predicted.

At the moment, it’s not until the very last days of February that light sleet is expected.
