I’ll lead Tories into next election – PM
PM Liz Truss has insisted she will lead her party into the next general election – an extremely optimistic view for a prime minister clinging on.
The PM sat down for an interview to apologise for the many U-turns and economic turmoil her mini-Budget brought to the financial markets. Beyond the economic mess, politically, many say the Liz Truss era has come to an end.
The PM apologised for making mistakes, adding her first 5 weeks in power “hasn’t been perfect” but she had “fixed” her mistakes.
She said it would have been “irresponsible” for her to not change course.
In her BBC interview, she said she was committed to boosting UK economic growth but said it would now take longer to achieve.
The PM’s apology came after another hectic day at Westminster. The new chancellor Jeremy Hunt had announced that nearly all the tax cuts announced at last month’s mini-budget would be scrapped.
The move calmed the market but has left Liz Truss’s premiership in tatters.
