How Dev Patel nearly lost his hand and sight while making ‘best new action film in years’
Dev Patel barely made it through the making of new film Monkey Man in one piece, but he is now reaping the rewards as his directorial debut is being lauded as the best new action film in years.
The intense movie earned an unprecedented two-minute standing ovation and widespread critical acclaim after its premiere at the SXSW film festival in America.
Patel, 33, who wiped away tears as he took in the thunderous applause from the screening audience at the screening this week, admitted that the film was riddled with disaster and injury, telling the crowd: ‘We faced catastrophe, every day.’
Monkey Man follows a street fighter in Mumbai on his quest for revenge against the high-class villains responsible for his mother’s death.
