We can’t wait to see more ‘Taoelle’ on our screens (Picture: Netflix)
As if we couldn’t love Elle and Tao’s growing connection on Heartstopper any more, Netflix has only gone and released a deleted scene from season 1 featuring the adorable characters.
The first batch of episodes introduced viewers to a brilliant past, led by Joe Locke as Charlie Spring and Kit Connor as Nick Nelson.
Doctor Who star Yasmin Finney plays Elle in the show, a trans student who recently transferred to the girls’ school from the boys’ school, while William Gao stars as Tao, Charlie’s protective and jealous best friend.
In the deleted scene released by the streaming giant, Elle and Tao – who are both two of Charlie’s closest pals – share a heartwarming moment together.
They’re having a sleepover with Charlie and their other friend Isaac (Tobie Donovan), and are the only two who are still awake.
The pair are giggling while looking at something on Tao’s phone, before he puts it down and they gaze at each other.
‘What?’ Tao asks, to which Elle replies: ‘I miss you.’
‘I miss you too,’ Tao responds, before explaining just how much, given how Charlie had been spending more time with Nick at that point in the story.
‘It’s just me and Isaac most lunchtimes now. I don’t wanna be alone,’ he admits.
‘You’re not,’ Elle stresses, as Tao thanks her for her kind words.
As the duo lay down together, with their arms wrapped around each other, electric lightning bolts begin to appear on screen on top of Tao, as Elle looks at him.
Many fans of the series based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel of the same name were astounded that the scene was axed in the final cut.
‘I can’t believe we were robbed of this,’ one person commented on Twitter, while another wrote: ‘I can’t believe they kept this from us 🥲🥲 they’re so cute 😭.’
‘Watching this convinced me, that we are absolutely not prepared for taoelle in season 2,’ another said, referencing the characters’ ship name, as another remarked: ‘Ohh wow! Elle and Tao such a lovely chemistry.’
In December, filming wrapped on the second season of the show.
In a post shared on social media, Alice wrote: ‘That’s a wrap on Heartstopper season 2! It’s been an incredibly intense few months on set with many new challenges for the cast and crew, but everyone rose to those challenges with such passion and skill and determination.’
The author and illustrator continued: ‘Huge thanks to every single member of the cast and crew – everyone has worked ridiculously hard and given it their all, and for that I am eternally grateful.’
‘This season is going to be so magical and I can’t wait to get started on post-production! 🍂🌈’.
Heartstopper is available to watch on Netflix.
