Haiti central bank raid leaves at least three dead
In Haiti, police have fatally shot at least three individuals while stopping an assault on the nation’s central bank.
An employee informed AFP that a “group of criminals” targeted the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) on Monday, resulting in up to four casualties and one guard being wounded.
The bank thanked security forces for “protecting our community”.
Haiti has been enduring weeks of unrest following prison raids by gangs, leading to the release of numerous inmates and the resignation of the prime minister.
In a statement on X, BRH said: “Following an incident yesterday near [our] site on Rue Pavee, security forces and the bank’s security team acted with professionalism and efficiency.”
The bank remains one of the few crucial institutions operating in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince.
