Guy Pearce has addressed claims he has ‘beef’ with fellow Australian star Cate Blanchett.
Fans noticed that Pearce, 55, didn’t seem particularly pleased that 53-year-old Blanchett had scooped a Critics’ Choice Award gong for her leading role in Tár and later appeared to take aim at one of Blanchett’s photoshoots.
Pearce has since deleted the tweets that were interpreted to be a dig at Blanchett and clarified on Twitter: ‘Fear not. No beef at all. I was merely being sarcastic. I adore Miss CB. She’s incredible…..One of our best!’
Fans first started sharing theories on Twitter that something had gone down between the stars when Pearce replied to a social media user who shared a photo of Blanchett strung up in a harness while taking part in a photoshoot.
Alongside the images, the Twitter user penned: ‘I know some of you have a mighty need to see this photoshoot Cate Blanchett did. Go look for the rest.’
Pearce simply replied to the post: ‘Ah no thanks.’

In a separate tweet, the former Neighbours star also commented on the Critics’ Choice Awards’ announcement that Blanchett had won the ceremony’s best actress gong, saying: ‘Fascinating choice…’
While the Memento star has since deleted his tweets and confirmed he harbours no hard feelings towards Blanchett, some internet users have pointed to comments he made about the Oscar-winner way back in 2008.
According to 9Honey, Pearce suggested that year that he wasn’t best pleased about the amount of money Blanchett had been paid for her role as the head of the Sydney Theatre Company.

When speaking about whether he’d be willing to reprise his role in Melbourne Theatre Company’s play Poor Boy when it moved up the coast to Sydney, Pearce hinted he’d only do so if his pay was matched with Blanchett’s.
‘I’d certainly do it if I didn’t have any other projects coming forward but it’s way too early to tell,’ he said.
‘If I’m not at home I might as well be doing something like a movie that pays a decent amount. I mean it would be hard to say: “Sorry, I don’t want to do your movie because I want to work for nothing in Sydney for another three months”.’
He added: ‘Ms Blanchett’s fantastic, absolutely, but I’ve got to make a living.
