A family forked out £8,000 on what they thought was a dream vacation to Disney – but instead bought vouchers for Disney+.
TikToker Andie Coston’s elderly parents thought they’d save cash and buy vouchers to purchase tickets and restaurant reservations at the parks.
But when they had trouble loading them, Andie discovered that the gift cards were for television streaming service Disney+, and her parents had accidentally purchased over 70 years’-worth of the streaming platform.
Taking to TikTok to share the tale, Andie asked for advice on how to rectify the situation.
The video went viral with over 69,000 likes and 2.1 million views.
She said: ‘We were in disbelief when we figured it out. My dad and I just laughed and felt deflated at the same time.’
Andie and 16 of her family members had been planning the trip since 2020, but were shocked about the mishap – luckily, Disney worked some magic to rectify it.
She added: ‘My parents did end up hearing from Disney last night. We were able to exchange the gift cards as well as get park gift cards.’
The situation left TikTokers in stitches, with many questioning how the mistake was made in the first place.
Andrea Hewitt said: ‘I feel like the gift cards were pretty clear and this was user error.’
Andie replied: ‘My parents are 78. They don’t use streaming services – I’m now hearing lots of similar stories!’
Rogonzo joked: ‘Your kids: mom can we go to Disney? You forever: we have Disney at home.’
