England national team marginally beat an Austria team who, let’s face it are not that great. But despite that lack of quality, The three lions midfield struggled to dominate the ball. Even Harry Kane, spent the majority of the game in the middle of the park to add numbers to midfield.
England need Hendo & Maguire back
The midfield has lots of potentials, but they really need that experience around them and this is where Gareth’s gamble with Henderson’s and Maguire’s fitness must pay off. If the team can get that spine of Maguire, Henderson and Kane set in the middle of the team, that will allow the Foden’s and Grealish to really flourish and significantly allow Kane to stay in the box.
Trent Alexander Arnold’s injury-marred a night when England did what they have to, get the win against Austria, albeit with a less than impressive performance which was perhaps to be expected with a much-changed side forced on Southgate by those many absentees, which saw him select Jesse Lingard even though he is not in the Euros squad.
Saka stars
Arsenal teenager Bukayo Saka shined upfront with Jack Grealish in fine form and the youngster crowned a fine move with an angled finish for his first international goal after 56 minutes. Saka called his winner “probably the biggest moment of my career so far”.
Against one of the top ten teams, England would have lost that game 3-0.
