Former President Donald Trump officially announced his 2024 bid for the White House and vowed to ‘fight like no one has ever fought before’.
‘In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,’ Trump said from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, on Tuesday night.
Trump, wearing a red tie, walked up to a podium with ‘God Bless the USA’ playing in the background. The crowd chanted ‘USA!’ as he went up to a podium with signage reading, ‘Trump: Make America Great Again!’

‘Unlike other presidents, I kept my promises,’ said Trump as the audience chanted his name.
Trump named his successor, President Joe Biden, several times, saying the nation has experienced ‘pain, hardship, anxiety and despair’ under his leadership. He said inflation is the highest in 50 years and that Americans face the highest gas prices.
‘Two years ago we were a great nation and soon we will be a great nation again,’ Trump said.
‘I will fight like no one has ever fought before.’

Trump said he ‘will ensure Biden does not receive four more years’.
He filed his paperwork to establish his candidacy to run for president with the Federal Election Committee just before making his announcement speech.
Trump launched his campaign despite urging from some of his aides and allies to hold off at least until after the midterm election results were determined. Trump had sought to springboard off an expected ‘red wave’ of Republican victories, but several of his hand-picked candidates lost high-profile races.
It is Trump’s third presidential campaign, after winning in 2016 and losing to Biden in 2020.
Donald Trump is the only president to be impeached and acquitted twice (Picture: Reuters)
Trump’s plan to announce on Tuesday night was confirmed by a longtime adviser just hours prior.
‘Hopefully TODAY will turn out to be one of the most important days in the history of our Country!’ Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform early Tuesday.
Trump is the only president who has been impeached twice. He was impeached by the House of Representatives in 2019 over his dealings with Ukraine, but acquitted by the Senate in 2020. In January 2021, Trump was again impeached by the House and charged with ‘incitement of insurrection’ over the deadly Capitol riot. He was also the first president to be acquitted twice.
The January 6 insurrection unfolded as Trump insisted that the 2020 presidential election had been stolen from him. After hearing Trump speak at a rally, an angry mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol building, seeking to stop Congress from certifying the election in Biden’s favor.

Trump has continued to push the baseless claim that he won the 2020 election, despite losing by more than seven million votes and lacking evidence of widespread fraud.
His handling of the coronavirus pandemic was heavily criticized. He initially downplayed the threat of Covid-19 and clashed with top public health experts. On the last day of Trump’s term, more than 405,000 people had died of the virus and the US had recorded over 24.3million cases, the most in the world.
As the 45th president, Trump got through a Republican tax bill that overhauled the country’s tax code. It permanently cut the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21% and provided temporary benefits for families and individuals.
Trump also signed criminal justice reform into law that expanded rehabilitative opportunities for inmates. It sought to reduce the size of the federal prison population.

His long lasting mark is reshaping the federal judiciary. He picked three conservative Supreme Court justices and 226 judges that will serve lifetime appointments.
