Dominic Cummings committee: Matt Hancock should be sacked for 15-20 things including lying
The explosive Dominic Cummings committee meeting is in full swing, with the prime minister’s former aide saying Matt Hancock should have been sacked for lying to the public and fellow ministers.
During his exposing of a litany of government “failures” to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, he has singled out Hancock, saying he should have been fired for “at least 15 to 20 thing” including lying to everybody on “multiple occasions”. Cummings said he suggested this to the PM and Mark Sedwill.
KEY POINTS:
- Cummings said Hancock should’ve been fired for ‘at least 15 to 20 things’
- Accuses Hancock of lying to the public and ministers
- Says Hancock was interfering in testing so he could hit the target he had promised the public
- Cummings said he called around ministers telling them not to do what Hancock says to do.
Hancock lies
Cumming said there were “numerous” other examples, also citing Matt Hancock claiming over the summer that “everyone who needed treatment got the treatment they required.”
He knew that was a lie because he’d been briefed by the chief scientific adviser [Sir Patrick Vallance] and the chief medical officer [Prof Chis Whitty] himself about the first peak, and we were told explicitly people did not get the treatment they deserved. Many people were left to die in horrific circumstances,” Cummings said.
Has Matt Hancock deleted his ‘Dominic Cummings was just doing what any father would do‘ tweet of support yet?

‘Hancock was interfering in testing’
Dominic Cummings has said Matt Hancock was ‘interfering’ in testing so he could hit his target of 100,000 tests a day.
The government “kind of collapsed when the prime minister got ill himself,” Cummings told MPs.
Cummings said Hancock’s pledge of 100,000 tests a day by the end of April “was an incredibly stupid thing to do” because he says the government had started ramping down testing capacity again.
He says “Hancock was interfering” with things in government to make sure he hit the target “when the PM was on his death bed”.
Cummings said he and Sir Patrick Vallance started calling government officials and saying “do not do what Hancock says,” he says Matt Hancock was instructing officials to hold tests back so he could hit his 100,000 target by the end of April.
