A Pakistani-American doctor was stabbed to death while sitting with her dog outside her Houston area apartment on Saturday.
Police are searching for answers after Dr Talat Jehan Khan, 52, was killed at a picnic table outside her apartment in Conroe, Texas.
Khan was the mother of two children, a well-respected pediatrician, and a beloved member of Houston and Seattle’s Muslim communities.
Witness said the attacker seemingly ‘came out of nowhere’ to stab the doctor, who was sitting outside her apartment with her dog around 1.30pm on Saturday afternoon.

‘I was outside and I heard a woman out there, and I heard that she was screaming. She was sitting at the picnic table,’ another witness told KHOU11 in Houston.
The attacker fled the scene on foot, but was quickly apprehended by police, who set up a perimeter nearby.
‘Witnesses on scene gave a good description of the suspect and his direction of travel,’ the Conroe Police Department said in a press release.
Miles Joseph Fridrich, 24, was charged with first-degree murder for the stabbing. He is being held on $500,000 bond.
Khan’s family said she only recently moved to Texas after working for years in Seattle.

‘She wanted to go somewhere it was sunny,’ her older brother Wajahat Nyaz told KHOU11. ‘She moved out here and she liked it, liked the sun and the warm weather.’
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) office in Houston said they were following the case closely and were in dialogue with law enforcement.
‘We are unsure at this moment if this was a hate crime; however, given the tragic circumstances, we are paying very close attention to the investigation,’ the organization said.
Police have not found any evidence that the killing was a hate crime. Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the tragic slaying.
