A Star Wars hotel at Walt Disney World Florida that offers $20,000 (£16,100) stays for tourists is set to close just one year since it opened.
The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel was sold as an experience for fans of the franchise, costing around $1,200 (£966) per person per day, with one out-of-this-world suite coming in at $20,000 for the trip.
It was announced at D23 Expo in 2019 as part of the park’s $1 billion (£805 million) Star Wars land, finally opening on March 1, 2022.
The accommodation has been criticised by fans since its opening, due to its prices and the fact it has no windows, though it did receive a Thea Award for outstanding achievement in a themed entertainment space.
Now, it has been announced the hotel will embark on its last voyages in September as it is set to close down just one year after it opened.
A spokesperson from Disney announced in a statement: ‘Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognised for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment.

‘This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.’
The hotel will take fans to a Galaxy Far, Far Away until October 1, 2023, after which it will close its doors for good.
A room for three adults and one child is priced at $5,999 (£4,832), while a cabin for two guests comes in at $4,809 (£3,873). This rises to $5,299 (£4268) for three guests.
The news comes just months after the hotel reduced prices for dates in October, November, and December, with reports finding that it was taking just three or four bookings every week, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Disney also recently engaged in a lawsuit with Florida’s Republican governor and possible 2024 presidential candidate Ron DeSantis over theme parks district control.
DeSantis carried out a ‘targeted campaign of government retaliation’ against Disney after the company opposed legislation dubbed Don’t Say Gay, the suit states. The state law, formally called the Parental Rights in Education bill, prohibits lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity in early-grade classrooms.
