Arsenal legend David Seaman has lauded Gabriel Magalhaes for his clever dummy in Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Liverpool at the Emirates.
Magalhaes played a part in Arsenal’s second goal as Mikel Arteta’s side went 2-1 up, with the Brazilian centre-back surging forward alongside Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard as Gabriel Martinelli burst down the left with the ball.
Martinelli hit a low cross and with Magalhaes in the middle with a great chance to score, he decided to dummy the ball to allow an unmarked Saka to slot home.
Seaman admitted he was surprised to see Magalhaes playing so high up the pitch, especially at 1-1, but praised the defender for his decision making.
‘The ball from Gabriel Martinelli to Bukayo Saka was ace,’ the former goalkeeper told Seaman Says.
‘I thought Gabriel Magalhaes had swung and missed [the ball] but he dummied it, he let it go through his legs to Saka.
‘It was a great decision, as it made it so easy for Saka to score. So credit to him there.

‘What he was doing up there, I don’t know! You’re a defender, defend. But he made a big contribution, so we’ll have that.’
Speaking about Martinelli, Seaman added: ‘He’s a really nice guy. When I go in [to the club] he is always with the young lads, always around them and saying hello.
‘To see him performing as he is, it’s brilliant. He’s playing without fear and he’s really causing problems.
‘He was causing problems to Trent Alexander-Arnold and the whole Liverpool defence.
‘Both of them [Saka and Martinelli] were attacking the wings almost at the same time.
‘They know if one goes down the wing, that the cross will come in. The second goal was brilliant, a great move.’
Arsenal return to action on Thursday when they travel to face Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League before a trip to Leeds United in the Premier League on Sunday.
