David Schwimmer shares wholesome Friends-related texts he gets from co-star
David Schwimmer has lifted the lid on his close friendship with Friends co-star Matt LeBlanc, and how they still connect over the iconic show.
The beloved sitcom ran for 10 seasons and boasted a star-studded cast, including David, Matt, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry.
Although the show officially ended in 2004, we’ve been blessed with countless re-runs ever since – which means that viewers can rediscover their favorite episodes, or pinpoint errors and plot holes that no one had picked up on.
During an appearance on Good Morning America to promote his new series, Goosebumps, the 58-year-old revealed that he still has a very close bond with his former castmates, and they often rehash scenes together.
‘LeBlanc and I are pretty close, even though I live in New York and he’s in LA,’ he told the hosts.
‘What’s fun is we’ve got the kind of friendship where we may not talk for months, but out of nowhere, he’ll send me a message with a clip from the show – which, it’s always funny to relive something we shot, what, 25 years ago or more?
‘He sent me something a couple of days ago that totally surprised me.
‘I genuinely forgot what we’ve shot, but it’s a moment where he just rips my shirt off.’
That is a group chat we absolutely need to worm our way into…
Despite the show providing a lot of laughs during the decade that it originally aired, and the many years since, David recently explained that it wasn’t quite fun and games while shooting.
In fact, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Ross Geller star shared that he was once worried for Matt’s safety during filming for the season three episode, The One Where No One’s Ready.
The instalment aired in September, 1996, and saw Ross rushing the gang to get ready for an important event at the museum, but they all had individual issues to worth through.
Matt’s Joey spent much of the instalment battling with Chandler (Matthew) over who could sit in Monica’s (Courteney) chair – leading to the legendary moment where he wore all of his pal’s clothes out of spite.
However, he accidentally fell while trying to get into the chair at a crucial moment, and dislocated his shoulder in front of the live audience, meaning filming had to be halted.
The actor was forced to wear a sling while his arm healed, with TV bosses writing the injury into the show – most notably in the next episode, The One With The Jam.
‘During the live taping of the show, [Matt] is supposed to do a kind of a pratfall, and he actually dislocated his shoulder,’ David remembered.
‘He went totally white, and he stood up, and I could see his shoulder was out. He looked like he was going to pass out.’
He made sure filming was stopped so that his pal could get medical attention, adding: ‘That was genuinely frightening.
‘You could see how badly hurt he was. And we had to stop filming that night, obviously, and he went to hospital.
‘That was scary.’
