Disney CEO explains why it’s safe to go back to Disney World
CNN says Disney World is set to reopen — but is it safe to return to the ”most magical place on Earth”? Disney CEO Bob Chapek believes so.
The Disney resort in Orlando, Florida, plans to reopen on July 11 for its Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom parks and July 15 for EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, the company said Wednesday.

Japan seeing fewer deaths than last year – despite the coronavirus
Japan Times says the number of deaths across the nation fell in the first three months of 2020 despite the novel coronavirus, according to data issued by the health ministry. The data adds weight to the government’s position it was able to control the first wave of infections in the pandemic.
The mortality data, released Tuesday, showed Japan recorded 368,793 deaths in the first three months of this year – a 0.7 per cent fall from the average of the same period in the past five years.

Test and trace system will start on Thursday
BBC News says a massive system to find people who come into close contact with those infected with coronavirus will start in England on Thursday, Boris Johnson has said.
PM Boris Johnson said it “will change people’s lives.” The aim of the system is to move from lockdown for all towards more targeted measures.

Tory anger grows as dozens of MPs defy Boris Johnson’s call to move on
The Guardian says more than 60 Conservative MPs have continued to defy Boris Johnson’s calls to “move on” from the Dominic Cummings crisis.
Former chancellor Sajid Javid said the journey Cummings took was not “necessary of justified” as the number of backbenchers calling for Cummings to resign or be sacked grew to 44, with a total of 61 Tory MPs weighing in to criticise him.

Coronavirus pandemic exposes inequality in Ecuador’s Guayaquil
Aljazeera says the pandemic’s strain on the working class highlights deep divisions in economic power, analysts and residents say.
Residents Victoria Sanchez and her mother showed up at their local hospital in Ecuador’s Guayaquil for her mother’s weekly dialysis treatment last month, but hospital staff refused to let the mother in due to her runny nose.
Hospital staff feared it was Covid-19 and said they could not risk exposing other patients in the dialysis ward, Sanchez says they told her.

US Covid-19 death toll surpasses 100,000
France24 says the novel coronavirus has killed more than 100,000 people in the United States according to a Reuters tally on Wednesday. There has recently been a slowdown in deaths which has encouraged businesses to reopen and Americans to emerge from more than two months of lockdown.
About 1,400 Americans have died on average each day in May, down from a peak of 2,000 in April, according to the tally of state and country data on Covid-19 deaths.
