Cristiano Ronaldo has singled out just one Manchester United youngster who he feels can emulate his longevity.
Those are just the latest remarks from his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan, in which Ronaldo has also hit out at boss Erik ten Hag, the club’s owners, former team-mates and former managers, with United deciding to hand him a £1m fine.
‘I think the best advice… I’m not the kind of guy who likes to give advice, I like to lead from example,’ Ronaldo told Morgan.
‘I’m there every morning, I do the same stuff, I’m probably the first person to arrive and the last one to leave.
‘[The youngsters] listen to one thing, and in two minutes they have already forgot. I like to lead by example. Some follow me, not much…
‘They don’t care. Some ones yes, but most of them no. To me it is not surprising. They are not going to have longevity in their careers.’
Ronaldo does, however, feel there is one player who can emulate his longevity as he singled out 23-year-old Diogo Dalot, his international team-mate for Portugal.
United right-back Dalot, who moved to Old Trafford in 2018 from Porto, has impressed for the Red Devils this season under new boss Ten Hag.
‘In Manchester United I can mention Dalot, he’s young, but very professional and I don’t doubt that he’s going to have longevity in football because he’s young, he’s smart, intelligent and he’s very professional,’ Ronaldo added.
Ronaldo also praised two other United team-mates when asked about players he admires: ‘Probably [Lisandro] Martinez [and] Casemiro [who is] is in his 30s.’
The 37-year-old forward will feature for Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar, although was missing from training on Wednesday.
