Covid-19: New local lockdown restrictions in England to be unveiled
BBC News says new local lockdown rules for England are due to be announced later.
The Liverpool City Region is expected to face the tightest restrictions under a new “three-tier” system, which will classify regions as being at a “medium,” “high” or “very high” level of alert.
But Steve Rotheram, the city region’s mayor, said: “no deal has been agreed”.

Italy set to introduce national restrictions
The Guardian says Italian experts meet on Monday to consider new restrictions, expected later in the week, as the country’s daily infections surpassed 5,000 in recent days for the first time since March. Deaths linked to the virus, however, are far lower than at the peak of the pandemic in spring.
“Now we need a change of pace, and to intervene with measures, not comparable to those adopted in the past, which could allow us to put the contagion under control and avoid tougher measures later on,” the Italian health minister said in an interview.

Covid virus ‘can survive for 28 days on surfaces’, according to a lab study
France24 says Covid-19 can survive on items such as banknotes and phones for up to 28 days in cool, dark conditions, according to a study by Australia’s national science agency.
Researchers at CSIRO’s disease preparedness centre tested the longevity of SARS-CoV-2 in the dark at three temperatures, showing survival rates decreased as conditions became hotter, the agency said Monday.

China to test the entire city of Qingdao after Covid-19 cases emerge
Aljazeera says authorities in China’s Qingdao said on Monday they would test the city’s entire population of more than nine million people for Covid-19 during the next five days after new cases appeared linked to a hospital treating people who had been confirmed with the disease after returning from overseas.
The coastal city reported six new Covid-19 cases and six asymptomatic cases as of late October 11 with most of the cases linked to the Qingdao Chest Hospital.

Oman imposes nighttime lockdown in the fight against Covid-19
Arab News says Oman has imposed a complete nighttime lockdown as part of precaution against the coronavirus pandemic, state news agency ONA reported.
The latest measure, which took effect over the weekend and limits movement from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m., is in effect until Oct. 24.

Trump says he tested “totally negative” for Covid-19
CNN says Trump claimed, without providing evidence, that he has “been tested, totally negative” for Covid-19. Trump told supporters Sunday on a “Call to Prayer” that he’s “ready to go, I feel so good.”
The latest update from the President’s physician says Trump “is no longer considered a transmission risk to others” and “there is no longer evidence of actively replicating virus.”
