The stress never ends! (Picture: ITV)
With the money apparently gone (though it has now been used by Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) and Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) to buy the Rovers, (without Carla’s knowledge), Carla had a fight on her hands to save her business.
She succeeded with hard work and some luck, to the point where it’s once again on a stable footing. Until the next crisis – which might be coming sooner than Carla would hope thanks to a new employee.
Carla’s nephew Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) entered her life unexpectedly at the end of December, and turned her life upside down. The chaotic Bobby, the son of her brother Rob Donovan, initially planned to stay for a few weeks but when his belongings arrived in the Street it became clear that Carla had a permanent new lodger.
Bobby is an absolute handful and it wasn’t long before he was making his presence felt among other characters in Weatherfield, with Carla having to haul him away after he started chatting up Debbie (Sue Devaney).

Eventually Carla got tired of her nephew helping himself to her wine and generally just taking advantage and told him it was time he paid his way. And, as one of the leading employers in the area, she was able to help him out with a trial on the sales team at Underworld.
Bobby insisted she wouldn’t regret her decision to give him a job, but that’s immediately tested in upcoming episodes.
Carla is on the phone to an important client – one of those make-or-break calls that can ensure sufficient work for the next few months – but she realises there’s mayhem on the factory floor.

And Bobby is in the middle of it, distracting the machinists with his antics.
‘Yes, I’m in the factory,’ Jack Carroll told us.
‘Luckily not modelling any of the merchandise! Carla’s managed to swing me a job. There’s a lot of me causing chaos in there as well. It’s good fun.’
Whether Carla will end up regretting her decision remains to be seen, but Alison King told us that Bobby’s arrival has shaken Carla out of any doldrums she might have been in following Peter (Chris Gascoyne)’s departure.
‘Bobby arriving has kind of snapped her out of that because he’s so much trouble. Him coming in and creating havoc a little bit, and her having to support him in lots of different ways stops any self indulgence. So that’s been amazing.’
The factory’s future remains uncertain.
