Chelsea have opened talks with Borussia Monchengladbach over the signing of Marcus Thuram.
Graham Potter is keen to add to his attack this month, despite the arrivals of Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last summer.
Chelsea are languishing in tenth and are 10 points behind Manchester United, who occupy fourth spot.
Potter has been given significant funds to spend this month and the club have already landed David Datro Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Andrey Santos so far this month.
Thuram impressed for France at the World Cup and the likes of Manchester United are said to be considering a move for the 25-year-old.
The forward’s hit 13 goals in 17 matches for Monchengladbach this season but he’s intimated that he won’t sign a new deal at the club.

His current contract expires at the end of the season and the Germans are willing to sanction his exit this month in order to recoup some cash for the striker.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have initiated contact with the Bundesliga club and are planning a series of talks over the next 48 hours.
Chelsea hope to convince Gladbach to sell for around £8.5m, given Thuram is out of contract in July.
Thuram, for his part, is open to staying at the club until the end of the season as he’s in good form.
He feels he will have a host of options in July and doesn’t want to limit himself to suitors who are only willing to pay a fee this month.
