Cara Delevingne’s road to sobriety hasn’t been smooth sailing, but she has insisted that absolutely nothing is going to set her back – and that she’s ‘stable and calmer’ now.
The supermodel and actress, 30, previously struggled with alcohol and drugs, and last year left many fearing for her mental health after a series of paparazzi pictures emerged of her looking dishevelled and erratic after a trip to Burning Man festival.
She later spoke out about tackling her issues head-on and revealed earlier this year that she had checked herself into rehab after failed attempts at interventions from loved ones.
Several months on, Cara is feeling happier and brighter and maintains that nothing is going to stop her on her path to recovery, despite some bumps along the way.
Cara told Elle UK: ‘It hasn’t [been easy], but there have never been moments when I’m like, “This isn’t worth it.”
‘It’s been worth every second. I just don’t know what it would take for me to give it up. I am stable. I’m calmer.’

The Only Murders in The Building star, who appears on the cover of the magazine and has posed for a striking photoshoot, admitted she feels like a weight has been lifted from her.
She feels she can be fully honest about her difficulties around her friends and family, and her fans.
‘For a long time, I felt like I was hiding a lot from people who looked up to me,’ she said.
‘I finally feel as though I can be free and myself, fully.’
The multi-talented star rose to fame as a Burberry model over 10 years ago and has since gone on to carve out a massive career in entertainment, as both a supermodel walking for mega-brands including Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and Oscar de la Renta, and actress, starring in films and TV shows such as Suicide Squad, Carnival Row and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

But the speedy, overnight rise to an unknown name to a household name had an impact on Cara.
‘It didn’t feel real,’ she said. ‘I didn’t feel like I deserved it. I didn’t feel worthy.
‘I was still stuck in this mindset of not being good enough. I was doing the best I could, but I wasn’t really appreciating every moment. Inside, I felt very different to how I looked.’
Now, feeling calmer in her new era, Cara credits her girlfriend, musician Leah Mason, known as Minke, for helping her to get there.
‘My girlfriend has been really wonderful in introducing me to a lot of things and people,’ she said.

‘Being with my girlfriend, in this relationship, there are just so many things that came at once that have made me so happy and comfortable with who I am.’
Cara and Minke have known each other for 20 years, but are believed to have started dating last summer, when the pair were spotted kissing while on holiday In Italy.
Being in a same-sex relationship, Cara has acknowledged the difficulties she and others in her community face, particularly at home, and recognises the importance of queer joy ‘now more than ever, in England and in the US’.
‘It’s a scary time for queer people. But the more that we’re met with fear, the more joy we have to bring. Because no one can take that joy away, no matter what. We’re not going anywhere.’
The September issue of ELLE UK is on sale from July 27.
