The Piano has come to an emotional end, with Lucy delivering the winning performance of the Channel 4 series.

Mika, Claudia Winkleman and Chinese pianist Lang Lang had been on the hunt for Great Britain’s most talented undiscovered pianists.

After listening to hopeful musicians, who played at the UK’s busiest stations including Leeds, London St Pancras, Glasgow and Birmingham, four were selected to play at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

Ultimately picked to play at the final concert at London’s Royal Festival Hall were Lucy, from West Yorkshire, 25-year-old Jay from the Isle of Wight, 27-year-old Sean from Edinburgh and Danny from Manchester, 26.

Announcing who had given the winning performance, Mika said: ‘It was about just highlighting if something extraordinary was to happen. Something that no-one could forget… and that happened.’

The crowd burst into applause when the popstar said Lucy had given the winning performance, with her mum later saying she was ‘very proud.’

However, Jay, Sean and Danny didn’t walk home empty-handed after all the finalists were gifted a piano to continue pursuing their musical dreams.

Lucy, 13, who is blind, had left Lang Lang and Mika speechless with her rendition of Chopin’s Nocturne in B-flat minor during her first performance.

Her mother Candice previously reflected on the experience of Lucy, who developed her skills through musical charity The Amber Trust, taking part in the show, telling the PA News agency: ‘It’s a once in a lifetime experience that neither of us will ever forget.’

Meanwhile, Jay, who was discovered at Kings Cross St Pancras Station in London, had spoken about how piano playing ‘has taken me out of a lot of negative situations.’

Sean, whose style Mika described as ‘virtuosic’ after he was discovered at Glasgow Central Station, admitted ahead of the final: ‘Now I have a taste for venues like the Royal Festival Hall, so I am working hard to make sure it’s not a one-off.’

Finally, Danny, explained he came to music to get out his own emotion following his dad’s death by suicide and previously admitted he was no stranger to performing for commuters.

The Piano is available to stream on All4.
