Black Lives Matter co-founder to step down amid criticism Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors has announced she is stepping down as executive director of the BLM foundation.  Cullors decried what called a smear campaign from a far-right group but said neither that nor criticism from Black organisers have influenced her departure.  She said she is leaving to focus on other projects, including a second book and a TV development deal. UN Gaza appeal to raise $95m for urgent aid The UN has launched an emergency appeal to raise $95 million for urgent humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza along with repairs to key infrastructure damaged by Israeli attacks this month.  The 11-day heavy bombardment has left 800,000 Palestinians without access to clean water. UAE Covid-19 cases rise to highest in one month UAE Covid-19 cases have risen to their highest level in one month, with health officials confirm 2,167 new infections overnight. Only a few days ago, the UAE reported lows of about 1,200 cases.  UAE cases have not risen above the 2,000 level since April 27 when 2,094 cases were confirmed.
