    The Times leads with the highly anticipated restrictions easing, saying the June 21 lift is now in doubt over the rising case of the Indian variant. The front page also reports on the PM giving his full support to Matt Hancock after the Dominic Cummings explosive claims.

    Indian surge leaves end to restriction in doubt 

    June’s anticipated end to Covid lockdown restrictions “hangs in the balance”, according to The Times, because of the rise in cases of the Indian variant, which has “doubled in a week”, the paper adds.

    Police failings exposed as thousands of at-risk girls go missing

    The Times says police and social services have been accused of failing thousands of girls as young as 11, who have repeatedly reported missing while at risk of sexual abuse. 

    PM’s support for Hancock after claims he told lies

    The Times front page also picks up on the ongoing fallout since the Dominic Cummmings committee meeting. The paper says Boris Johnson gave his “full backing” to Matt Hancock after initially declining to comment on it.

    The Times says Prince Harry has discussed the pain of losing a famous parent with the eldest son of Robin Williams, the comedian who killed himself seven years ago.

    35,000 Hongkongers apply to live in UK under visa scheme

    The Times says more than six times as many Hongkongers as Europeans have applied to live in the UK since the start of the year. 

    There have been 34,300 applications to the bespoke five-year visa scheme for British National Overseas (BNO) citizens since it opened on January 31.

    We could not test patients sent to care homes for Covid, Matt Hancock admits

    The Times says Matt Hancock yesterday admitted that it “wasn’t possible” to test elderly hospital patients discharged into care homes for coronavirus as he sought to defend himself against allegations that he lied.
