Prosecutor Paola De Martino requested the indictment of five members of the family held responsible for the attack on five doctors at the Foggia Polyclinic last September 4, after the news that their 23-year-old relative, Natasha Pugliese, had died during a surgery.

According to what was reported by the Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno, these are the father, two brothers, the sister and the uncle of the 23-year-old. Natasha was hospitalized on 18 June following injuries sustained in an accident near the Cerignola stadium, which involved the scooter on which the victim was travelling.
The preliminary hearing judge Cecilia Massarelli has set the preliminary hearing for December 16th. The accusations are serious, also supported by the videos shot by the healthcare staff who were attacked.

The Prosecutor’s Office accuses Natasha’s five relatives, “in competition with other unidentified subjects”, of injuries to healthcare personnel, threats, private violence, damage to the access door to the doctors’ room in front of the operating room and interruption of public service, “for having prevented the health workers present within the operating area used in the thoracic surgery department where Natasha Pugliese had been operated on from attending to their duties which were interrupted due to the violent intrusion of several unauthorized subjects”.

The resistance to a policeman who stood between the attackers and one of the beaten doctors was also contested. Alongside the investigation into the attack on hospital doctors, there is the one opened by the Prosecutor’s Office to shed light on the causes of Natasha Pugliese’s death, in which her family members are the offended parties.

There are 20 suspects. They are surgeons and hospital doctors (including some who are offended parties in the trial for the attack) who treated the patient from 18 June to 4 September. The alleged crime against them is manslaughter in a medical field.
