Controversy at the Madrid Assembly for the 6% salary rise for its deputies

A Christmas gift for regional deputies accompanied by controversy. The Madrid Assembly table approved on December 26 a salary increase of 6% which was approved by the PP, PSOE, Vox’s rejection for extra spending in public requires a Link it to the revaluation of pensions in Congress, which was lying with the Omnibus decree.

The text states that these salaries have been reduced between 10 and 15%, which have only increased twice (2% in 2020 and 2024). It also highlights the letter signed by the president of the Assembly, Enrique Ossorio, that the Madrid Parliament is one of those who least pay their deputies, 16% below the average until this increase, and that in the ranking it was located in the 11, ascending to 9 with this salary increase.

    The latest news from Spain

In the press conference after the Board of Spokespersons that took place this Monday in the Vallecas Chamber, the Vox spokeswoman, Isabel Pérez Moñino, was the first to criticize this agreement, ensuring that 6% of salary increase will mean an expense Extra of 1 million euros to regional coffers in the remainder of the legislature, calculating an increase of “200 euros on the payroll”.

“The PP and PSOE make a theater outside and then a pact inside,” Pérez Moñino moved, who believes that they agree to “maintain and hold their privileges” instead of the “chainsaw” that the region needs in its eyes.

Similarly, from more Madrid his spokesman, Manuela Bergerot, requested that the rise in the salaries of the deputies be paralyzed until the Congress of Deputies approves the revaluation of pensions. In this regard, he placed the “Ayuso Party”, the PP, voting together with the president of Vox, Santiago Abascal, and that of Junts, Carles Puigdemont, to knock down this measure included in the Omnibus decree that also contemplates, among others, the Transport subsidies.

In the non -law proposition (NLP) registered to request that the rise in salaries be postponed in the Assembly, they make no sense that pensions are “frozen” in Congress but then “the salaries of the parliamentarian are increased”

    PP and PSOE defense

For his part, the PSOE spokesman, Jesús Celada, put in the focus that the salaries of the deputies of the assembly are “below” the rest of regional parliaments and that they have “nothing to do” with those of the congress and the Senate. “It was a matter of equating other parliaments,” he added.

In the same line, his counterpart of the PP, Carlos Díaz-Pache, was expressed, who, in addition, highlighted the “great legislative activity” of the Madrid Assembly. He remarked that they continue “in the middle of the table” by being located as the ninth parliament in terms of remuneration.

In addition, he crossed out “one more element of demagogy” that more Madrid asks to be linked to pensions. In this regard, he reminded him that the government of which they are part with the Minister of Health, Mónica García, could present the upload and would go ahead instead of “linking it to other” interests and “yield to blackmail”, in allusions to the “PNV palace”.
