Almost all the main US front pages lead with images of President-elect Donald Trump meeting with Joe Biden at the Oval Office on Wednesday. The pair met to discuss the transition of power – Trump will take office in January.
The front pages are filled up with various political stories from Donald Trump’s Cabinet appointments, to the new role to be undertaken by billionaire Elon Musk. Online, there is running coverage of Trump’s picks – FOX News host Pete Hegseth will become the country’s new defence secretary, and Congressman Matt Gaetz will become attorney general.
Many of the papers report on the GOP winning the House of Representatives which now means they control both chambers of Congress (House and Senate) and with Trump in power in January, the Republicans will have little issues passing their agenda.
‘Trump and Biden pledge peaceful transfer of power,’ says the WSJ.
The Wall Street Journal has several political leads. The main image is of a smiling Trump and Biden meeting at the White House. The paper reports that the pair have pledged a peaceful handover of power, following the violence witess in 2020.

USA Today says John Thune has been elected as the next Senate majority leader. The paper says the role is one of the most important in the US and he’ll soon have a say over Trump’s agenda.
Elsewhere, the front page carries an image of Trump and Biden meeting at the White House. It notes the pair have agreed to a ‘smooth’ transition of power.
Elon Musk’s new role on the outskirts of the US government makes the front page. He has been tasked with trimming government spending and waste.
‘Trump and Biden play nice … for now,’ says the New York Times.
The New York Times features an image of the two men shaking hands. The paper refers to them as ‘enemies’ and says they have agreed to ‘play nice’ for now – highlighting their promise to a peaceful transfer of power.
‘Welcome back Mr Trump,’ says the New York Post.
New York Post dedicates its whole front page to the meeting saying ‘welcome back’. The paper says Donald Trump has praised his meeting with Joe Biden.
‘Trump’s surprise picks,’ that’s the headline on the front page of The Washington Post.
The Washington Post also leads on a handful of political stories. The paper’s lead story reports on Trump’s ‘surprise’ picks for government. Joe Biden has welcomed Donald Trump to the White House despite the many months of expressing disdain for each other, the paper adds.
‘Musk’s new role is a tall order,’ reports the Los Angeles Times.
Los Angeles Times writes that Biden invited Trump to the Oval Office in a return to tradition after Trump refused to do the same when Biden won the 2020 election. Elon Musk’s new role is a ‘tall order’, the paper says, and there’s no clear path as to how they will slim down government.
