Trump prepares to appoint top jobs after Harris concedes election
President-elect Donald Trump is preparing to select his top team for his return to the presidency in January.
The former president won the 2024 election by a landslide beating Vice President Kamala Harris, who delivered her first speech since the loss yesterday.
Harris told supporters: “I know many people feel like we are entering a dark time, but for the benefit of us all, I hope that is not the case”.
Trump’s win saw him take at least five of the seven battleground states – and he remains ahead in the two that have yet to be declared, Nevada and Arizona.
The GOP has also taken back the Senate and is on course to win the House of Representatives – although it could take days for a final result on who has won the House.
Despite polls suggesting the race was neck-and-neck, Trump has won a landslide victory and if the GOP end up winning all three – presidency, Senate and House, they will have extraordinary power to push through their legislation.
Kamala Harris gave her concession speech at Howard University in Washington DC on Wednesday. While promising to help with the transition of power, she urged her supporters to “never give up the fight for our democracy.”
