US election 2024: Millions set to vote in tight election
It’s election day in the United States and millions of Americans will head to the polls to cast their ballot for either Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump.
The polls will start to open at 05:00 ET (10:00 GMT) and results are expected to trickle in over the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Both Harris and Trump are offering up starkly different plans for the country with abortion rights and immigration on the ballot. Harris has promised to protect abortion rights and lower food and housing costs for working families.
Republican candidate Donald Trump has promised to close the border and introduce tax cuts worth trillions if he wins the election today.
Yesterday marked the final day of campaigning for both candidates, with Harris in swing state Pennsylvania and Trump visiting swing state Michigan.
The seven swing states are set to decide this election – and polling has consistently suggested it is neck-and-neck between the candidates.
