Kamala Harris distances herself from Biden’s comments on Trump supporters
With just days before the White House election, Kamala Harris is working to move past a controversy ignited by President Joe Biden’s comment, which some took as him referring to Trump supporters as “garbage.” When questioned about the remark, Harris emphasised she disagreed with “any criticism of people based on who they vote for,” pointing out that Biden had clarified the comment’s intent.
The White House released a transcript saying Biden’s comment targeted a specific comedian who, at a Trump rally, made an offensive joke about Puerto Rico—not Trump’s broader supporter base. Despite Biden’s clarification, Trump amplified the incident by making a campaign appearance in Wisconsin where he climbed into a garbage truck, urging Biden to apologise.
As Harris campaigned in Washington, DC, she redirected focus to the upcoming election, framing it as a choice between unity and ongoing divisiveness. She emphasised her commitment to representing all Americans if elected, underscoring her intent to “turn the page on the drama and conflict” in US politics.
