Today’s news summary – Paper Talk 

Friday’s front pages lead with the prison escapee Daniel Khalife as, despite a massive manhunt being underway, there have still been no sightings of him. There have been reports he could have already left the UK. 

Many papers mark the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death. 

Daniel Khalife manhunt

The Metro reports that the search for Daniel Khalife has caused “motorway chaos” as police continue their hunt for the “terror spy”. There have been long queues forming outside Dover as vehicles were being checked for the 21-year-old former soldier. 

The i newspaper reports the prison break is being investigated as a possible inside job. The paper’s front page notes that officials believe he might have already left the UK. 

The Guardian says the prison break has prompted a row over prison cuts. The paper says ministers have been blamed for staff shortages as the manhunt enters a second day.

The Times says a CCTV clue in the hunt for Daniel might suggest he might already be abroad, adding he was “a resourceful individual whose training could help him to evade detection”.

Queen’s death one year on 

Several of the newspapers use their front pages to mark the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death. 

The Daily Mirror leads with two royal stories. The main reports on King Charles III’s thanking the nation for supporting him during his first year on the throne. A picture of Prince William meeting Paul Gascoigne also makes the splash. 

The Mail marks the first anniversary of the Queen’s death with a story about Prince William and Prince Harry, who have not reconciled, according to the paper. Harry is back in the UK for the WellChild event and is expected to stay in the country to mark the anniversary of the Queen’s death. 

The Telegraph has a large image of the Queen along with the headline: “We recall with great affection her long life, devoted service and all she meant to so many of us.”
