Proud Boys leader Joe Biggs sentenced to 17 years for Capitol riot
Joe Biggs, 38 – a US Army vet and leader of the far-right Proud Boys – has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for his role in the 2021 US capitol riot.
Briggs has been identified as an instigator of the storming of Congress. He has been convicted of seditious conspiracy and other charges in May.
In court, he pleaded for leniency and expressed remorse for his actions. His 17-year sentence is below both federal sentencing guidelines and the 33 years the prosecutors wanted.
Zachary Rehl, another Proud Boys member, was sentenced to 15 years on Thursday.
In court, a tearful Biggs apologised for his actions and said he had been “seduced” by the crowd on the day of the riot.
