G20: Delhi tries to scare monkeys away from summit
Dehli authorities are introducing measures to scare away monkeys from venues linked to the G20 summit.
There are life-size cut-outs of grey langur monkeys in various places as well as plans to deploy people trained to mimic the animal’s sounds.
Delhi – the capital of India – has a huge monkey population and authorities hope these steps will keep the simians from disrupting the summit.
Langurs are aggressive monkeys and all steps will be taken to keep them away from the G20 summit on 9 and 10 September.
A senior official told PTI news agency that langur cut-outs will be put in areas with lots of monkeys.
There will be 30-40 trained people who can mimic the langurs sounds standing by hotels where delegates will stay as well as in places where monkeys have been sighted.
Furthermore, there are plans to provide food for monkeys in designated sites, aiming to discourage them from lingering in search of food.
