Theresa May’s ex-adviser Nick Timothy to run for Matt Hancock’s seat in next election
Nick Timothy, former chief of staff to ex-PM Theresa May, has been selected by the Tory party to fight for Matt Hancock’s seat at the next general election.
Timothy is confirmed as the party’s candidate for West Suffolk.
Hancock currently severs as an independent MP after he was suspended by the party for appearing on the hit reality TV show I’m A Celebrity.
Timothy resigned from his role as joint chief of staff after the Tories lost their majority in the 2017 election. May failed to win an expected majority, having to strike a deal with Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party.
At the time, Timothy said he took responsibility for the poor result and urged fellow Tories to “get behind” May.
Timothy failed to be selected as a Tory candidate ahead of the 2019 election, but remained in the political world, writing a column for the Telegraph.
