Hugh Jackman and Rylan Reynolds were spotted in character as Deadpool and Wolverine as the two superhumans clashed in an epic battle.
The pair are partnering up for the massively-anticipated Deadpool 3 – the first time Hugh has played the bad-tempered X-Men mutant since 2017’s Logan.
Fans went wild for the announcement Wolverine would appear in the next instalment of the violent and action-packed Deadpool franchise, with Ryan sharing the news in a video last year.
There’s still quite a while to wait until we see the film in all its glory, but we do now have a first glimpse of what to expect.
Photos taken from set show the two engaged in a dangerous clash, both in costume – Wolverine in the legendary yellow suit from the comics and 90s show, and which appeared in a deleted scene from The Wolverine.
(And yes, we’re all picturing the scene from the first X-Men movie where Logan questions the suit – and Cyclops asks if he’d prefer yellow spandex.)

Deadpool, naturally, was also in the red suit typical of the franchise, with actor Ryan underneath.
Body doubles were in sight as the duo slashed, kicked, punched and flew through the air, with Ryan suspended on strings to aid his stunts.
Some shots are nothing less than pure violent – great news for fans of the films.

While the finished sequence will definitely be violent, stills look like something from a ballet (Picture: Bav Media / SplashNews.com)
But in others, the action scenes almost look like stills from a ballet, as Ryan spins through the air, sometimes caught and held by High.
One snap sees Deadpool seemingly take Wolverine by surprise with a sneak attack from behind as he leaps from a crane.
In other close-ups, Wolverine looks like the advantage is back on his side as Hugh as he punches the air and swings his arms with the red suit nowhere to be seen – though Hugh is holding a prop Deadpool leg, with the rest expected to be added in with CGI.

And in one, Wolverine delivers a brutal blow to Deadpool as he seems to stab him in the back with his claws.
A fatal attack for most, but Deadpool fans will know it’s not quite that easy.
Outside of the action shots, the two actors can be seen hanging out on set, laughing with each other and at one point embracing.

Fans still have almost a year to wait before they see the clash in all its glory (Picture: Bav Media / SplashNews.com)
Dozens of film crew are busy watching every moment and working on their parts, with the scenes filmed in what looks like a large quarry or canyon, in the south of England.
There isn’t much in the way of a set in the background – except for one interesting detail which appears to be an enormous 20th Century Fox logo half-buried in the dirt.
It’s a little under a year before fans get to watch this battle in cinemas, but if we keep seeing little glimpses like this it won’t feel as long.
As well as Wolverine’s appearance, it marks the first time Deadpool joins the MCU – and will also see Jennifer Garner star as Elektra.
Deadpool 3 is set for release on May 3, 2024
