Have you tried bronzer under your eyes? (Picture: marthalynnn/tiktok
Sometimes it feels like there isn’t enough makeup in the world to get rid of your eye bags. Can there ever really be a cosmetic substitute for a good night’s sleep?
Well, eye bags and deep set eyes are natural, and we shouldn’t feel ashamed to have them. But there are occasions we want to minimise their appearance.
And now there’s a TikTok hack for it. While most of us usually grab the concealer to wipe away traces of a bad night’s kip, we might need a different make-up item altogether.
Have you considered using a bronzer instead?
Model Martha Lyn, 21, based in New York, shared a tip she saw in another video whereby the user skips concealer in favour of bronzer.
She told viewers: ‘Instead of concealer [the original poster] puts bronzer on her eyes and under eyes. I have quite deep under eye bags so I thought it might actually suit my face better than concealer – Let’s give it a go.’
When Martha applied her bronzer it was a bit too light to offer any pigmentation, so she then added eyeshadow which offers the same bronze glow.
‘Okay, so far I just have on cream bronzer and cream blush, this cream bronzer is light and I don’t think it’s really gonna give what it needs to give.
‘I’m gonna go in with this REM liquid eyeshadow which is quite bronzey.’
After completing her make-up look, Martha was pleased with the end product, saying it was easier to apply than concealer which sometimes you have to wait to let set.
‘I kinda love it,’ she said. ‘It’s very summery, it’s a lot easier to do, yeah I feel very cute.’
Viewers loved the look, saying: ‘Love it. Very flattering and gives your face depth and intensity’.
Others vowed to try: ‘Actually looks really good. I have to try it, my concealer conceals nothing anyway’ and ‘I might try this. I hate concealer on me.’
Our verdict…
Metro.co.uk’s resident beauty guru Tanyel Mustafa tried the bronzer hack, vs her usual concealer, to compare the results.

Tanyel’s verdict: ‘I used Milk makeup’s cream bronzer as it’s sheerer with a slightly reflective sheen – you can’t use a heavy duty one for this and a flat matte will do nothing to disguise dark circles. The result is: terrible.
‘On my other eye I applied my usual brightening concealer and I look so much more awake and healthy – all the bronzer did was make my dark circles look somehow worse. I think this is one for the girlies who think they have “dark circles” but actually don’t need any concealing.’
