Bray Wyatt and LA Knight will face off in a Pitch Black Match (Picture: WWE)
WWE has offered a hint of what to expect from the first ever Pitch Black match at the 2023 Royal Rumble.
On January 28, Bray Wyatt will face off against LA Knight in a bout sponsored by Mountain Dew, and like Uncle Howdy’s identity, the company is playing its cards close to its chest in terms of the rules.
On Friday Night SmackDown, commentator Michael Cole offered a bit of clarity, although some questions still remain.
He told viewers: ‘It’s unique, it’s never been seen before. We don’t know quite what to expect. All we know is there are no rules, anything goes, pinfall or submission.
‘Bray Wyatt has tried quite desperately to avoid this descent into darkness but he’s failing. Three weeks from tonight, we’ll see what Bray is really capable of.’
It remains to be seen what the bout will actually involve, and particularly how the Pitch Black part will play out.
Cole’s comments came after LA Knight was interviewed backstage one week after Uncle Howdy left viewers stunned by laying out Wyatt in the middle of the ring.
It’s sparked plenty of questions about who could be under the sinister mask, and where exactly his allegiances lie considering he’s also spent weeks terrorising Knight.
However, the loudmouthed former NXT star was feeling ‘damn good’ as he claimed everything has blown up in Bray’s face, and now he just needs to ‘pick up the pieces’.
He’ll get his chance to do just that at the Rumble, but how it’s going to pan out is still a mystery.
The show will also feature the iconic 30-man and 30-woman Royal Rumble matches with the winners earning a world title shot of their choosing at WrestleMania 39, while Roman Reigns will defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Kevin Owens.
Royal Rumble 2023 airs January 28 at 1am on the WWE Network.
