David and Leyla lie to save Jacob (Picture: ITV)
Tonight’s gripping instalment of Emmerdale saw David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) and Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) confronted by police, following Jacob Gallagher’s (Joe-Warren Plant) stabbing.
Jacob found himself in grave danger as he faced Leyla’s drug dealer, Callum (Tom Ashley), with a knife in last night’s episode.
After finding Leyla with a bag of cocaine and locking her in her bedroom, the uni student took matters into his own hands as he warned Callum away. However, things ended in disaster when Jacob was stabbed with the knife he had stolen from Leyla’s kitchen.
Tonight, things were looking dire as David failed to locate his son. It wasn’t until Leyla spotted a text to Callum from her phone that she hadn’t sent that she realised where he must be.
As the pair raced to Leyla’s usual drug-dealing spot, they found Jacob bleeding on the side of the road.
Luckily, he was still alive.
After taking him to hospital, they were told that he would be undergoing surgery to try and save his life.
Things were set to get even worse for them, as they were informed that the police would be investigating the stabbing, seeing as it was an aggravated assault.

Leyla, who had discovered the knife beneath the viaduct, begged David not to tell the police the whole story. Thinking that Leyla simply wanted to save herself, David refused.
However, Leyla was quick to point out the real reason for her plea.
The knife she had found belonged to her, meaning that Jacob must have arrived at the meeting with Callum with the weapon. She explained that things would end up very complicated for Jacob if the case went to court, and had the potential to ruin his life.

Convinced, but not happy about it, David supported Leyla as she lied to the officers, explaining that they had no idea who could have stabbed her son.
Meanwhile, Jacob’s surgery had come to an end, as a doctor explained to the family that his liver had been damaged in the attack and he had to receive a blood transfusion.
She explained that, while he was stable for now, the next few hours would be critical.
Will Jacob survive his ordeal, and will the police ever get to the bottom of what happened?
