Chelsea are planning further talks with Benfica for the transfer of Enzo Fernandez after opening an ‘aggressive’ pursuit of the Argentine.
The 21-year-old has intimated he’s keen on a move to Stamford Bridge after Graham Potter’s side made an initial proposal to sign the World Cup winner.
While Benfica have been adamant they will not listen to offers for Fernandez and that a team would have to meet his £106m release clause, Chelsea are said to be willing to offer more than the required amount in order to restructure the payments to secure the transfer.
Instead of paying the fee upfront, Chelsea wish to make several installments over the next four years in order to comply with Financial Fair Play.
Benfica, somewhat understandably, would prefer the money upfront and the Daily Mail say Chelsea are taking an ‘aggressive’ approach in negotiations to get the deal done.

The Blues believe they can convince the Portuguese club to take several installments as they’re willing to put up the full fee for Fernandez.
Other interested parties, such as Liverpool and Manchester United, value the Argentine at lower than his £106m release clause.
The Blues are holding talks for Fernandez alongside parallel negotiations for Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile.
Chelsea have reportedly agreed a £34m deal to sign the France star, who has made 135 appearances for the Ligue 1 side.
