Uncle Howdy has made an impression (Picture: WWE)
WWE left fans stunned on SmackDown as Uncle Howdy laid out Bray Wyatt in front of rival LA Knight.
The former world champion, who suffered a broken finger earlier this week. kicked off the last show of 2022 by addressing last week’s unprompted attack on a cameraman ‘in cold blood’, and apologised for the incident.
This didn’t sit right with Knight, who has seemingly been beaten down by Uncle Howdy backstage a number of times over the past few weeks, and he came down to the ring confront Wyatt.
‘You used to be something. You used to be a force,’ he argued, before insisting he wanted to make a statement at the Royal Rumble on January 28.
‘You little idiot. Who the hell do you think you’re talking to, son? I’ve been really patient this whole time,’ Wyatt responded, insisting he could’ve ended him at any time.
He accepted the challenge for the Rumble, before a creepy video appeared repeating the ‘revel in what you are’ line, ending with a warning to ’embrace the dark’.
Who is Uncle Howdy?
Uncle Howdy made a suitably sinister entrance with the low lighting ensuring his identity is still being kept a secret as he removed his top hat and got in the ring.
Despite standing side by side with Wyatt, he suddenly turned and dropped the former Firefly Fun House host with his own Sister Abigail signature move to the shock of the crowd.
Like those in attendance, Knight looked totally stunned as he asked what was happening from ringside, while Wyatt was left lying on the mat.
It remains to be seen who is behind the Uncle Howdy persona and how they will fit into Bray Wyatt’s wider story following his comeback, while the Royal Rumble also poses plenty of questions.
Fans have some theories after close-up images of Howdy circulated on social media, with Edge and Bo Dallas both being thrown out as potential men behind the mask.
With Knight and Wyatt now set to face off at the event, fans will be wondering if the previously announced Pitch Black match is indeed for them – and what it actually involves.
WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
