Meghan Markle’s former Suits co-star Abigail Spencer has opened up on coming to her friend’s defence in the press, when she united with other pals to speak out.
New episodes of Prince Harry and Meghan’s documentary have been released on Netflix, shedding further light on the couple’s time as senior working members of the royal family and their decision to step away from the Firm.
In episode four, Harry, 38, opened about the ‘planting of stories’ in the press, explaining how different offices within the royal family would allegedly ‘end up working against each other’ to ‘remove a negative story about their principle’ in the media.
Meghan, 41, explained how restricted she felt in the ‘bubble’, to the point where she claimed that she ‘couldn’t even text her friends a photo’.
Her friend Abigail, who starred opposite her in legal drama Suits as Dana Scott, recalled that it was a ‘really dark time’, stating: ‘I didn’t know what to do. Like, that’s the thing. They are in this complex organism that I don’t know anything about or how to help or what to do and I’m not allowed to say anything. I was not allowed to say anything.’
Referring to the many stories that were being printed about Meghan in the press, Abigail said: ‘Anything that anybody was printing wasn’t coming from anybody that knew her. There’s all this untruth, there’s all these lies, and it just seemed to be getting worse.’

‘Abby came to me and said we should do something,’ Silver said, as Abigail added: ‘I called one of my closest friends, who just so happened at the time to be the editor of People magazine.
‘I said, we have to turn this narrative around. It will just be her closest friends coming together to talk about the person who she really is in the middle of this s**tstorm.’
Silver outlined how the article in People was ‘born out of just wanting to remind the world’ that Meghan is ‘a person and not a headline’, as well as ‘that she’s loved and stick up for her’.
