Sky customers are now facing an additional £5 charge for skipping adverts.
From 1st December, the broadcaster introduced the new monthly charge for customers with the Sky Glass TV or the Sky Stream set-top box.
It will be automatically added to the bills of customers who signed up to Ad Skipping unless they decide to opt out.
Opting out of Ad Skipping means viewers must sit through advert breaks on live channels and certain catch-up apps like ITVX.
Even when the feature is enabled, it doesn’t mean you don’t see ads – it just means you can skip through them on the likes of All4 or STVPlayer.
And, sadly, even if you do pay for Add Skipping, there’s still no way to get past adverts on some apps like YouTube and Spotify.
Customers with Sky Q haven’t yet been impacted by the extra fees as the update is yet to roll out to them. But anyone who recently bought Sky Glass TV may be able to avoid paying anything extra for at least the next 18 months.
Sky introduced the Ad Skipping TV pack earlier this year and bundled it free with its Sky Glass and Sky Stream contracts.
But the ‘introductory offer’ has ground to a halt and Sky, just like Netflix, is trying to make sure people spend time watching adverts as well as just the content.
