It is, quite literally a paperclip (Metier/Metro)
While the rising cost of living rocks thousands of lives, a designer brand is flogging a paper clip for £220.
Mayfair-based luxury leather brand Métier, loved by Kate Moss and the Princess of Wales, is selling a black and gold clip to be used as a bookmark.
It looks just like a paperclip… just one that just costs quite a lot more than the standard metal kind.
Customers can choose between three different sizes in this alternate reality where spending a few hundred on a bookmark is fine and normal.
The smallest one, 6.8 centimetres in length, costs £220.
The description for the ‘Small Bookmark’proclaims this is ‘an elegant leather-covered bookmark in the shape of a paperclip’ that is ‘crafted entirely by hand and out of solid brass.’
This would be quite expensive to lose
This frame is covered in buffalo leather and a brass tip is added onto both ends of the bookmark.
It comes in black and silver, black and gold (coloured) or brown and silver.
The price climbs to £290 for a larger version that measures at 13.4 centimetres long.
Then the priciest of the bunch comes in at £390 for a coffee table book-sized version.
For all your coffee book needs, we guess
Métier, an Italian brand, describes itself as ‘a luxury leather goods house that enhances the life and work of the modern-day man and woman’.
It’s known for its handmade leather handbags. There’s the traditional buffalo leather, new calfskin leather and ‘vegetable-tanned’ water buffalo leather which they claim is carbon neutral.
Métier says their vegetable-tanned ‘Elvis’ leather is made by ‘repurposing waste from clean, natural leather production in order to create biofertilizers.
‘These are used to grow vegetation and agricultural products that, during their life cycle, release oxygen into the atmosphere.
‘The bio-based leather program is therefore a circular economy that is carbon neutral.’
A small handbag from this collection costs £1,150 – which means the paperclip costs pocket change in comparison.
