Jerry Springer has apologised for his talk show, which he believed ‘ruined the culture’ with its fiery interactions between guests.
The broadcaster, 78, had hosted his self-titled talk show between 1991 and 2018, racking up almost 5000 episodes in that time.
However, he has apologised for the show, which included episode titles like ‘I Married A Horse’ and the effect it had on television and culture.
Speaking on David Yontef’s Behind The Velvet Rope podcast, Jerry said: ‘I just apologise. I’m so sorry. What have I done? I’ve ruined the culture.’
He joked: ‘I just hope hell isn’t that hot because I burn real easy. I’m very light-complexioned, and that kind of worries me.’
The show was a predecessor to many others, including the UK’s Jeremy Kyle Show, showcasing participants airing their dirty laundry on stage.

Jerry admitted that making a name in showbusiness was ‘never a thought in my mind’ and considers himself to be ‘just a schlub who got lucky.’
Prior to finding fame with his talk show, he had worked as a politician and was elected as the mayor of Cincinnati in 1977.
He explained: ‘After being mayor, I was offered the job to anchor the news for the NBC affiliate in Cincinnati, and I did that for 10 years.
‘And that was a kind of rational transition and then how the show happened was pure luck. The company that owned the station where I did the news owned talk shows.
‘They owned Phil Donahue, Sally Jesse Raphael. Well, Phil was retiring. And so the CEO took me to lunch one day and said, Phil’s retiring, we are starting a new talk show. You’re the host.
‘So I was assigned to it as an employee, and then all of a sudden, the show took off. So I wound up in show business through no thought of my own.’
