Busy workaholic types will soon be able to jump on a Zoom call from the comfort of their own Tesla.
The two companies have decided to strike up a deal to turn the electric car’s massive tablet-style display into a video conferencing tool.
Zoom calls will use the in-cabin camera above the rear-view mirror and was demonstrated at the company’s Zoomtopia 2022 event this week.
The in-car camera was installed to keep tabs on driver alertness when Tesla’s Autopilot is engaged.
And while some have questioned the privacy implications of opening it up to third-party apps, others are just stoked to be able to take Zoom calls in the car.
There’s been no specific launch date for the feature, only that it will be coming to ‘all new Tesla models soon’.
The brief announcement also didn’t answer a few fundamental questions on how it’ll work. Will it only work on Wi-Fi or will Tesla owners who pay for Premium Connectivity be able to use the car’s data plan?
Additionally, will the feature be disabled once the vehicle is on the move? Nobody wants more accidents because someone is trying to navigate the quarterly earnings call with their boss.
